Scout the
German Shepherd!

This is SCOUT! (Formerly "Purvis," named by Rick, a guy I work with ) - Scout a German Shepherd (not a mix, as I'd thought before - but a purebred) I had noticed for over a year living in squalid conditions.

He lived in a small outdoor cage with a small (and I mean SMALL) dog house for shelter. He was exposed to ALL elements 24/7, no let up, no walks, no roof over the cage, nothing. He lived in his own poo. He did have water, and it would seem he had enough to maintain 68 pounds of himself (as of 2/10, he is 95 pounds and his former self looks like a mere shadow in these pictures!).

He clearly had one heck of a spirit. He jumped for joy when anyone was around.

The people who had him were not the swiftest and after meeting them, it was clear that they did not understand why it is not good to keep a dog in this situation.

He was rescued on September 17, 2009.

He was taken to The Most Expensive Vet Clinic in This Area and they tested him, vaccinated him, appraised him - he is in good health, but was heartworm positive. The treatments were begun immediately - and as of 1/10, he is heartworm free!

He was intact. He has been fixed! As of 1/10 - he's neutered!

He is great with cats - sniffs some and ignores them. He's good with people unless I signal that I don't know them, in which case he watches closely.

He does not bark! About once a week, at the very most, he goes "arooo arooo aroooo" - and that's it.

I want him to have the best home on earth. He deserves it. He's a fantastic fella. He's housebroken, and I give him the credit, there. He also knows one command, "Sit" - and he HUGS like a BEAR!
